The Father’s Heart: What God says about Fathers

Discover a powerful Father’s Day encouragement for Christians and be reminded of what God says about Fathers and how Fathers can reflect God.

Father’s Day is a beautiful opportunity to honour the fathers, grandfathers, spiritual fathers, and father figures who have loved, protected, prayed, provided, and led with faith. But for many, Father’s Day can also bring mixed emotions: gratitude, grief, longing, or even pain.

Your Heavenly Father sees you, no matter your story.

No One is Fatherless

Psalm 68:5 says God is “a father to the fatherless.” He is not distant, distracted, or emotionally unavailable, He is present and kind. God is faithful. He is the Father who sees you, knows you, and calls you His own.

Around age 4, I became increasingly aware that other children had something I didn’t. I watched other children greet their fathers, then stared curiously as one dad gently tied his daughter’s shoelace. My Mum had taught me to pray by now so that night I prayed a simple prayer. “Father God, I know you are my Dad and you are enough, but if it be possible could you send me an earthly Father that can tie my shoe lace and pick me up.”

The very next day, in a moment that felt like something out of a Cinderella story, God sent a police officer across our path. He noticed my shoelace had come undone, knelt down to tie it, and sparked a story only God could write. My mother led him to Christ, and six months later, he married my Mum and adopted me as his own. He has been the greatest gift and a true earthly example of how God adopts us into His family. Whether we have good earthly examples or not, we have a Heavenly Father who made the universe and sees you as His own. And He is the perfect example of Fatherhood.

How does God honour fathers?

The Bible places great value on fathers. Godly fatherhood is not about perfection, control, or performance. It is about love, covering, wisdom, humility, and pointing the next generation to Jesus.

“The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him.” -Proverbs 20:7

A father’s faith can leave a legacy that outlives him. His prayers matter, His presence matters and His example matters.

This Father’s Day, take a moment to honour the men who have reflected even a glimpse of the Father’s heart in your life. Send the message. Say thank you. Pray a blessing over them.

How God heals father wounds

Maybe Father’s Day is difficult for you. Maybe your earthly father was absent, harsh, distant, or no longer here. God does not dismiss that pain. He meets you in it.

Through Jesus, we are invited into the love of the perfect Father. Romans 8:15 says we have received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba, Father.” God has not abandoned you or forgotten you. Your Heavenly Father heals what you missed, restores what broke, and roots your identity in His love.

God is raising faithful fathers

In a world that desperately needs strength shaped by love, God is raising fathers who will lead with courage, tenderness, prayer, and truth. Fathers who bless their children, who repent when they get it wrong and fathers who model faith in everyday life.

You do not have to be a perfect father to be a powerful one. Keep showing up, praying and keep loving and pointing your family back to Jesus.

This Father’s Day, let’s celebrate earthly fathers, honour spiritual fathers, and give thanks for the perfect love of our Heavenly Father.
