Wounded Warriors: Are You Letting Your Past Define You?
A timely message from Pastor Sam Luke for wounded warriors and how God uses your battles to refine you, not to define you. Find freedom and victory today.
Have you allowed your past to define you? Are you being dragged backwards by wounds, shame, embarrassment, frustration, or spiritual attack? I’ve been there. I remember times when in my Christian walk, I felt able to wield the sword of the Spirit with the faith of a child. Then suddenly something happened along the way and through heartbreak, disappointment and trauma, I became stuck.
In his powerful message Wounded Warrior, Pastor Sam Luke reminds you that being attacked does not mean being defeated. The Bible never promised that weapons would not be formed against us. It promised they would not prosper.
“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn.” –
-Isaiah 54:17
This means the attack may come. The accusation may rise. The enemy may try to wound you, shame you, embarrass you, or keep you stuck in frustration. But in Christ, it does not get the final word. God’s restoration is on the way for His wounded warriors, and it’s a beautiful thing.
What happens when the enemy cannot destroy you?
If the devil cannot destroy you, he will try to wound you.
He will try to rob you of your joy. He will try to pull you back into old pain. The enemy will try to make your past louder than God’s promises. He will try to use shame, disappointment, and frustration to keep you from moving forward.
But Sam Luke’s message is a reminder: you are not called to camp out in the crisis. You are called to come through it with God.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” -Psalm 46:1
Sometimes God allows us to pass through a crisis so we can see His strength, His power, and His faithfulness in a deeper way.
But passing through is not the same as staying there. Don’t stay there. You may feel like a wounded warrior right now, but it’s time to claim the victory.
Are you giving in to frustration?
Part of becoming a wounded warrior is learning how to discern.
Not every feeling needs to lead you. Not every frustration deserves your agreement and not every wound should become your identity.
The enemy wants to use your pain to keep you stuck, but God wants to use even your trials in your favour. Romans 8:28 reminds us that “God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
All things means even the hard things. Even the crisis, the betray and the disappointment. Even the wound.
God can turn tragedy into triumph.
What is a Wounded Warrior?
A wounded warrior has not avoided attack, but faced the battle and still chooses to stand in God’s truth.
Your wounds cannot disqualify you. Your past cannot define you and your crisis does not get to become your permanent home.
Through Jesus, God can turn what tried to break you into part of your testimony.

A Prayer For The Wounded Warrior
Heavenly Father, I thank you for all the battles you used to shape me into the person I am becoming today. Thank you for keeping me and never letting any weapon formed against me, destroy me. Lord you can see where the past has left wounds and left me with a limp. I ask that you would show me the victory and deliver me from letting the battles of the past define me. May I walk forward in victory, refined but not looking like what I’ve been through. I leave the wounds and the burdens and the shame at the cross, and pick up my sword again, in Jesus Name, Amen
