How to Leave a Legacy of Faith That Points Generations to Jesus
Discover what it means to leave a legacy of faith. Pastor David Norris’s message inspires us to live a life of impact.
What kind of legacy are you building with your life?
It’s a question that reaches far beyond success, possessions, reputation, or achievements. At the end of the day, the greatest legacy we can leave is not simply what we owned, accomplished, or were known for, but how faithfully we pointed others to Jesus.
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
-John 13:35
This verse always reminds me that my life is meant to point people to Jesus. When I am tempted to react out of emotion instead of respond from love, this scripture always makes me check my heart. I don’t always get it right and I know some will still misunderstand me, but it is important to remember that how I live my life preaches the Gospel more than my words ever will.
In Pastor David Norris’s powerful message, The Legacy of Faith, he reminds us that every life leaves something behind. Whether we realise it or not, our words, choices, values, habits, prayers, and priorities are shaping the people around us. The beautiful truth is that when Jesus is at the centre of our lives, we can leave a legacy that continues to speak long after we are gone.
A legacy of faith does not require a perfect family, a perfect story, or a perfect past. It simply begins with a surrendered heart that says, “Lord, use my life to reveal Your goodness.”
Faith lived daily can shape generations
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 reminds us to keep God’s commands on our hearts and impress them on our children. Faith is not meant to be hidden away; it is lived out in ordinary moments, in the way we pray, forgive, trust God, and respond to life’s challenges.
A legacy of faith is built when we consistently point others back to the goodness of God.
Psalm 145:4 says, “One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts.” Every testimony, prayer, and act of obedience can become a seed planted in someone else’s life.
Your legacy can begin today
Even if your family story has been marked by difficulty, brokenness, or distance from God. Be encouraged: through Jesus, a new legacy can begin with you. 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us that in Christ, we are made new.
You do not need a perfect past to leave a powerful legacy. You simply need a surrendered heart. When you choose to put Jesus first, pray over your family, live by His Word, and trust Him through every season, your faith becomes a gift to those around you.
Only whats done for Christ will last
This message reminded me of one of my favourite poems from missionary C.T Studd which ends with the phrase:
Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last
The strongest legacy is not built on wealth, status, or success. It is built on Jesus. Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
When Christ is the foundation of your life, your legacy becomes eternal. Your faithfulness today can shape someone else’s tomorrow.
