Jentezen Franklin was born in Wilson, North Carolina, USA in 1962. He lives in Gainesville, Georgia, where he established Free Chapel in 1989, a multi-campus church with locations in Irvine, California; Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Gwinnett, Georgia. Franklin is married to Cherise, and they have 5 children.
