Trusting God in Your Singleness

Learn how to trust God in your singleness. Discover biblical encouragement, practical wisdom, and ways to embrace your season with faith, joy, and purpose.

The Gift of Singleness is more than just a waiting season. For many Christians, singleness is like a waiting room for marriage. But the Bible offers a more balanced perspective. Singleness is not a curse — it is a special time with meaning and promise.  As Paul says in 1 Corinthians 7:32-34, singles should see this time to whole-heartedly serve the Lord. He says, “I want you to be free from anxieties… The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord.”

Instead of dwelling on the what-ifs and what’s missing, have faith that God is using this season to build, expand, and equip you for His plans, be those plans marriage or not.

TRUSTING GOD IN YOUR SINGLENESS

Time waiting is not time wasted. Psalm 27:14 pleads with our hearts:

“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”

God-honouring waiting is not passive: it’s an active belief that He’s working all things, including the wait, together for good and according to His purposes.

Singles grapple with questions that often go like: Why am I still single? Has God forgotten me? But part of trusting God is trusting that His plan is better than ours. Recall Isaiah 55:8-9: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.

Instead of worrying about the “when,” focus on:

Spiritual Growth – Deepen your relationship with God
Community & Service – Investing in friendships, ministry and serving others.

Personal Development – Develop in wisdom, emotional health, and stewardship of your gifts.

OVERCOMING LONELINESS AND FINDING FULFILMENT IN CHRIST

Loneliness is real, but a marriage is not the solution to it—Christ alone is. If we want a spouse to fill a God-shaped hole, we place unrealistic expectations on that person.

Jesus promises us rich, satisfying companionship: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). Psalm 62:5 provides another clear reminder of this reality: “Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.”

To combat loneliness:

PRACTICAL STEPS FOR THRIVING IN SINGLENESS

How can you thrive, not just survive in singleness? Here are some biblical principles:

1. Delight in the Lord- Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” It is the process of bringing our hearts in line with the things of God, not using Him to get what we want. Delight in the wait.
2. Guard Your Heart – “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23 Don’t get attached to anything that pulls you away from God.
3. Be Wise with Dating -Approach dating with wisdom, prayer, and godly counsel. Pray for discernment as you make decisions on who you give your time to.
4. Live Fully Now – Trusting God in your singleness involves resting in the knowledge that God is working and becoming the type of person that will be a good partner. Don’t wait for the spouse your dreams to begin living the kind of life the Lord has called you to. Serve, travel, learn new skills, and take advantage of the opportunities He’s put in front of you today.

Not everyone is meant for marriage, and that’s all right. Singleness is just as fulfilling and God-glorifying as marriage. Jesus was single, wholly focused on His mission, and Paul even discouraged marriage in the interest of focusing on God without distractions (1 Corinthians 7:7-8).

CONCLUSION: EMBRACING SINGLENESS AS A SEASON OF GROWTH

Singleness can be a time of cultivating your potential. The importance of trusting God in your singleness is not only a matter of getting through a period of waiting; it’s about living. Regardless of whether you’re single and looking to get married or older and married with kids, know that your value, identity, and purpose are in Christ and not in a relationship status.

May you live this season full of joy, trust, and expectation. God is faithful and His plans for your life, single or married, are good, fulfilling, and for His glory.
