60th annual National Day of Prayer LIVE on GOD TV
Media Release: MAY 4, 2011
GOD TV will once again broadcast the main event of the US National Day of Prayer (NDP) – LIVE from Washington, D.C. on Thursday May 5 at 9am (EST) with a replay during prime time viewing at 10pm. This high-profile prayer meeting will also be aired worldwide to 190 million connected homes on the GOD Channel on Saturday May 7 and in the USA at 3.30pm (EST).
Hosted by NDP Task Force Chairman, Shirley Dobson, the three-hour broadcast will include prayers of intercession for America and those in authority as well as an address by Joni Eareckson Tada, the Task Force’s Honorary Chairman. Joni is an esteemed author and international advocate for people with disabilities.
Celebrated on the first Thursday in May the NDP was established by an act of Congress in 1952, requiring the US presidents to proclaim a National Day of Prayer each year. This law was ruled to be unconstitutional’ by a US judge in 2010 following legal action from the Freedom From Religion Foundation, putting Government support of the annual observance at risk.
The National Day of Prayer appealed this ruling and GOD TV and its viewers joined the petition to ‘Save the NDP’. Fortunately the US Court of Appeals overturned the ruling on April 14, 2011, which is a great answer to prayer and President Obama subsequently issued a proclamation on April 29th declaring the 60th Annual observance of the National Day of Prayer.
The NDP encourages Americans to pray for the nation, the American people and all in authority. This year’s theme is ‘A Mighty Fortress for Our God’ based on Psalm 91.2 – “I will say of the Lord He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.”
In addition to the address by Joni Eareckson Tada, speakers featured on this year’s broadcast will include: Dr James & Shirley Dobson; Rabbi Daniel Lapin; Father Jerome Magat; Ambassador Raymond Joseph; Senator Elizabeth Dole; Congressman Allen West; Chaplain Barry Black; Justice Paul Newby; Dr Dick Eastman; Captain Ryan Voltin; Chaplain Brigadier General Howard Stendahl; Vonette Bright; Bobby Little; Dave Butts; and John Bornschein.
GOD TV is committed to rally the Body of Christ to prayer worldwide and often features mass prayer events from across the globe. The Network has been the exclusive broadcast partner of the NDP for four years, airing the National Observance to more than 200 nations. It will also broadcast the main event of the Global Day of Prayer LIVE from Jacksonville, FL on June 11.
“Prayer is so vital in our personal lives and for the future of our nations,” said GOD TV co-founder and Director of Television, Wendy Alec. “We encourage all believers to watch this important broadcast and intercede for those in authority wherever they live. We also ask the GOD TV family around the world to intercede for the USA at this time.”
The GOD Channel can be viewed all across the USA on channel 365 of DIRECTV as well as on select local cable stations in certain cities. Online viewers can watch at www.god.tv/live or at www.god.tv/video where many GOD TV’s programs are available for video on demand viewing.
